Maldives has always been a dream destination for many and I am no exception.

Everyone would think that Maldives will cost you an arm and a leg, but that does not have to be the case. Here are a few tips that you can visit Maldives without breaking your bank.

I've done a lot of research into Maldives packages and options. We opted for medium end hotel with all inclusive deal, located in a secluded island yet nearby the airport - this means we only have to take a speedboat transfer, rather than a seaplane which is way more expensive. - Tip no.1

I reached out to the travel agents as well as contacting the hotels directly in order to search for the best price. In our case, the travel agent turns out to provide us with the best price matching our budget and requirements.- Tip no. 2

I would highly recommend to go for a water villa as it gives you more privacy and unique experience to just a few steps away from the crystal clear turquoise Indian ocean - for 4 days 3 nights all inclusive water villa, it costs us approx £580 each so just under £200 a night.

As for the transportation, we coincided this trip with our yearly trip home to Thailand - kill 2 birds with one stone. We flew out from London Heathrow with Aeroflot Airline, with one stopover in Moscow. We booked multi destination trips: LHR - MLE and BKK - LHR.

The flight was decent, the plane had fairly decent legroom. the connecting flight was pretty straight forward on the way there, but on the way back is another story!

The flights costed us just over £700 each. - remember this includes the flight back from Thailand during the peak season. We booked this flight in April for our holiday in December - Tip no. 3

For this trip, we ended up spending about £1,300 each (in the very peak season) to visit this paradise one earth, plus the opportunity to explore Sri Lanka afterwards. I will write a blog about my experience in Sri Lanka shortly.

To sum up

  • Go for the Island located nearby the mainland - save cost on the seaplane

  • Try a few travel agents to compare the price

  • Book your flight well in advance - this is always the case

I hope you guys enjoy the Maldives like we did and when you're there, make sure you make some new friends, because you might end up meeting cool people like we did!
